Carnival Cruises entered the Cruise scene in 1972 with one ship, the Mardi gras, formerly the Empress of Canada. From there Carnival Cruises began developing the 'Fun Ship' concept, offering a shipboard experience so vibrant that it appealed to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Carnival was a pioneer in the concept of cheaper and shorter cruises. The Carnival Cruise ships are known for their Las Vegas decor and entertainment. The Cruise line calls its vessels 'The Fun Ships' and there is a wide range of activities offered on board.
Carnival Cruises are well known for the towel animals it creates for its guests in their cabins. Its trademark is the smoke stack, or funnel, which is red, white and blue and shaped like a whale's tail.
Carnival Cruises currently operates cruise holidays from 3 to 17 days in length to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, New England, the Canadian Maritime Provinces and the Panama Canal from homeports throughout North America.
